Please consider joining us Tuesday, February 21 in the Gaston Lobby of Roller Hall from 12:10-12:30 pm for Listen at Lunch: Black History Month. We will be covering African American contributions to the arts, specifically in the areas of film, poetry and music.

Why Black History Month?

Black History Month, and this presentation, is an opportunity to celebrate the cultural contributions of African-Americans.

Why Film, Poetry, and Music?

Film has an important relationship with Black History, not just as an important cultural touchstone; it has been used from the 20th century on to address racial issues. Poetry provides an intimate chronicle of Black history from the mid 18th-century to the present day. Lastly, Jazz and the Blues--the two genres of music born in the United States--provide insight into the struggle of African Americans from the nineteenth and twentieth centuries to the present day.
