In conjunction with Red Ribbon Week and acknowledging the overwhelming increase in prescription and counterfeit drug availability, Southside hosted Fentanyl Information X-plained (FIX). FIX is a non-profit charity committed to saving lives through education, outreach, and government support.
"No scare tactics, no judgement, just facts."
A 2021 nationwide study determined that 86% of young Americans aged 13-24 feel completely overwhelmed. 57% don’t feel comfortable talking about mental health and 79% say that anxiety and stress are common reasons to misuse prescription medicine. There is a false sense of security among this age group that online pills are safe because these black market pills are using pharmaceutical labels. 73% of teens and young adults aged 13-24 hadn’t heard of fentanyl in counterfeit pills.
A 'Fentapill' is a counterfeit pill that contains illicit fentanyl or illicit synthetic fentanyl analogs that are, more times than not, deadly. It looks identical to a pharmaceutical-grade pill but is made, bought and sold on the black market. Where are kids accessing this black market? They find them on social media and through “friends.” Assume ANY pill you buy online or get from a friend is fake and possibly deadly.
