Lyon College will host the Student Life Health Fair on August 9, from 3-5 p.m., inviting all community members to come out and learn more about how to stay healthy. Participants will have several opportunities to learn about alternative physical and mental health care solutions as well as participate in free mini services and demos.
“I wanted to do the health fair as something fun for students, but also as a way for them to see some of the services in our area that they may not be familiar with,” said Jennifer Morrison, Lyon College’s Campus Clinic Director.
One of the bigger booths will feature Unite’s Arrive Alive Tour, a virtual reality impaired driving simulator. Students, equipped with virtual reality goggles, will be tested in different areas related to impaired driving, simulating real-world distracted driving results without any of the danger.
“I do think the impaired driving car will be the main driving factor, but there are also going to be many other things there,” said Morrison.
In addition to the Arrive Alive simulation, this year’s health fair has several different booths, demonstrations and services that participants can look forward to, including yoga demonstrations, sex education, a Creative Dining food station, ARCare, the Humane Society booth and much, much more!
“Every booth is going to have info as well as some sort of activity or fun item to take away,” said Morrison. “Things like pens, cell phone wallets, note pads, hand sanitizer, can cozies, snacks, a money grab booth, a selfie station, games, music, animals from Humane Society, etc.”
So be sure to come to the fair, check out the booths, and learn more about how to keep yourself healthy and happy! And if you would like to help, or if you have suggestions about the fair, Morrison is always happy to hear from you.
“I am always open to ideas, suggestions, and volunteers,” said Morrison. “Not only for this fair but for anything during the year. I would like for my office to be a place that students can come to when they are not feeling well, but also as a place to obtain valuable info.” at Tuesday, August 2, 2022
