CHEROKEE VILLAGE: From The Mayor

Covid 19 message from mayor

Cherokee Village issued the following announcement on Oct. 6.

I am glad to see an increase in vaccination numbers. This will help us turn the corner on this virus and enhance our abilities to return to a normal existence. Remember to practice social distancing and wear a mask where and when you believe it is necessary to protect your health.

With the onset of Fall, nature commences its changing of the colors, and leaves begin to accumulate. Remember if you plan to burn your leaves ascertain if there is a burn ban posted and it is mandatory to contact our Fire Department prior to burning. The contact number is 257-2304. Always clear the area around your burn site and have water accessible to keep the fire under control.

October brings us Halloween as well and our Police Department will be conducting its annual treats for the kids on Halloween night from 5-8p.m. Distribution of treats will be beneath the canopy at the department entrance. When out trick or treating, parents should always accompany their children. Furthermore, vehicle operators should be especially alert on Halloween for children in costume. Another alert is to be on the lookout for deer movement in the city due to the combination of the hunting season and the deer experiencing their annual rut during the Fall.

At the September council meeting, the ordinance regarding junked, unlicensed, and vehicle storage on residential property was formally adopted and went into effect immediately. You may view the ordinance on our city’s website. Additionally, two Fire Department vehicles were declared surplus and will be advertised for sale by bid. If you are a collector of fire engines you may be interested in bidding on one of the items. Both vehicles are available for viewing at the Baseheart Station on Cherokee Rd. Due to retirement or resignation the city has replaced three officers in the police department. We welcome Richard Crowe, Austin Rose, and Anthony Wiles into the department ranks and wish them well.
