Cherokee Village issued the following announcement on Sept. 18.
Now accepting applications for the position of Road & Street Superintendent. The position includes health insurance and a retirement package.
All applications are to be submitted to City Hall by 4pm, October 1.

Requirements:
Duties and Responsibilities
Administration/Supervision
• Serve as the chief administrator for the Street Department
• Supervise and evaluate all personnel
• Administer and control the approved fiscal budget
• Manage and account for all department related financial matters
• Abide by state statutes, city ordinances, and department policies
• Provide appropriate training with an emphasis on safety for employees
• Properly maintain all CVSD equipment, vehicles, and buildings
• Generate and establish safety procedures
• Schedule and direct daily street repair activities
• Perform any other appropriate duties as requested at any time
Communications
• Must possess excellent communication skills both written and oral
• Prepare and submit periodic written and oral reports as needed
• Ensure all CVSD employees are aware of policies and procedures
• Communicate CVSD activities, personnel issues in an appropriate manner
• Attend and lead meetings as required including monthly street committee
• Represent the city in a professional manner at all times especially with the public and the media
• Provide inter-department information and support as requested
• Must be able to provide conflict resolution with employees and public
• Must respond to complaints from citizens in a timely manner
Critical Skills
• Must be computer literate with Microsoft Office package
• Must be able to work financial spreadsheets including Excel
• Must be able to write work orders and track completion (1200+ a year)
• Must have previous supervisory skills with maintenance background a plus
• Must have critical math skills to calculate materials needed and used
• Must be able to project and plan annual operations budgets
• Must be on call 24/7 and respond to call-outs after normal work hours
• Must be able to work outside under any weather conditions and perform any duties as needed during emergencies or disasters
• Must have a working knowledge of OSHA rules and regulations
• Must be able to perform office duties including purchases orders if needed
• Must have a valid Arkansas driver’s license – CDL type preferred
• Must be able to pass periodic random drug and alcohol screenings.
