HEBER SPRINGS AREA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE: September's Chamber Member Spotlight is on Heber Springs Humane Society

Spotlight

Heber Springs Area Chamber of Commerce issued the following announcement on Sept. 1.

The Heber Springs Humane Society and Virginia L. Harrison Shelter is located at 49 Shelter Lane in Heber Springs, Arkansas. We are dedicated to rescuing lost and abandoned dogs and cats in Heber Springs and Cleburne County. We find loving forever homes and provide medical care, immunizations, spay and neuter surgeries, food, and loving care for our animals. We are open by appointment only to approved adopters. Adoption applications are available on our website, www.heberspringshumanesociety.com. We are blessed with volunteers who foster puppies, kittens and severely sick animals until they can be adopted. Shelter animals are cared for with food, water, a place to sleep and many people who love them. Our employees deeply care for our dogs and cats and go the extra mile to make sure they are comfortable.

We work with Dr. Bradley Self and Dr. Ryan Sartin to provide veterinary care for all of our animals. We transport dogs to a rescue in Massachusetts and are proud to say every dog we send has been adopted, the majority before they ever leave Arkansas. We also are partners with Petsmart and volunteers take our cats to Conway Petsmart for adoption where they are quickly adopted into forever homes.

We are a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization supported by donations from individuals. We also have a contract with some of our closest neighbor cities, the Corps of Engineers and the County whereby we agree to take any homeless animals they find. The biggest part of our revenue comes from our Thrift Shop located downtown on Fourth Street in Heber Springs. The thrift store needs items you no longer need or want. They are open Monday thru Saturday, 9:30 to 2:30. It is staffed completely with volunteers and more help is always needed! The Shelter is also undertaking a very large project to hook onto the city sewer system, and we are in need of the community’s support! Please contact the shelter if you would like to give a donation to this project.

Our Board of Directors is made up of nine members, Dianne Jones, President; Linda Laivins, Vice President; Mary David, Treasurer; Sara Freeman, Secretary; Eileen Wilroy, Shelter Financial Officer; Michael Swaffar, Karen Ronquest, Jennifer Acierno and Becky Hollis.

One of our fundraising projects is our annual 5K/1k Paws at the Beach Run/Walk. We were unable to have it in 2020 due to the pandemic but we are making big plans for this year! It will be October 2, 2021 at Sandy Beach, Heber Springs. Race begins at 8 a.m. You can register online at www.raceroster.com. Please call the shelter at 501-362-7322 if you are interested in becoming a sponsor.

Thank you to 101.9 The Lake- KSUG for sponsoring the Chamber Member Spotlight!
