The Baxter County Sheriff’s Office announced on April 20 that a drug take-back event will be held Saturday, April 25, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Tractor Supply Company parking lot located at 1025 Highway 62 East in Mountain Home. Community members are invited to drop off expired or unneeded medications for safe disposal with no questions asked.

This initiative aims to provide residents with a secure way to dispose of unused prescription drugs, which can help prevent misuse and protect the environment. Sheriff’s deputies will be present during the event to assist as needed.

The Baxter County Sheriff’s Office partners with organizations such as the 14th Judicial District Drug Task Force to address narcotics issues across county lines, according to the official website. The agency secures funding through community donations via the Baxter County Sheriff Foundation, also noted on its website.

In addition to events like this, the Sheriff’s Office contributes broadly to community safety efforts that have helped establish the area as a secure retirement destination, according to its official website. The department operates a detention center featuring separate housing for different inmate classifications and an on-site medical area. It also employs five personnel in its administration division who are cross-trained for efficient operations.

The office has received recognition through nominations such as America’s Most Wanted All Star Award for innovative public information initiatives, according to its official website. Serving north-central Arkansas, it focuses on public safety through patrol enforcement, criminal investigations and jail management while maintaining partnerships within the community and supporting programs like inmate gardening and animal control.
